It’s Time to Stick A Fork In the Editing

“American Gothic” by Grant Wood

If you’ve been following my journey, you may be wondering, “will this book ever be ready for me to read?” As we approach summer, I’m getting asked this question quite often by those who are closest to me; the ones who have known for a very long time that my novel was in the making. So, when can we stick a fork in it and be done?

I’m excited to announce that I just sent the final, final edits to my publication director, Lyndie. As I was making the last change, I knew in my heart that the lengthy editing process was complete. I was down to making some very slight tweaks and nothing more.

What a wonderful feeling, to know that we’re ready for the next stage: typesetting, page design, and cover design. This is what I’ve been most eager to get to! What will the artists at Newman Springs Publishing create? I can’t wait to find out!

COVER STORY

When I think of my story and its potential cover art, I think of two things: nature and music. Our heroine, Anna, is attached to Maine so strongly that it becomes her place of solace when her life is shattered. I can envision a cover that depicts mid-coast Maine with its breathtaking islands, mountains, lakes, and ocean.

Then, there’s music, the thread that ties the story together through all of its highs and lows. Microphones, sheet music, guitars, and pianos – all representing words and melodies that express the heart’s deepest longings and desires.

At its core, “I Knew Men” is a love story that will take you back to the 1980s, when there were no cell phones, online streaming, or social media. There was no instant access to anything. It was a time of tape players, records, network television, gossip columns and magazines, and FM radio — the end of the analog era. Times have changed, but the same wants and needs that were present then are just as present now.

When will you get to read “I Knew Men”? I’m told that it should be out within the next 60 days. Thanks for hanging in with me!

I’m keeping my fork handy for its next poke.
